Mashi
We are very happy to announce that Masanori Murkami aka Mashi will participate in our project
Masanori Murakami was selected in the 1964 Amateur Free Agent Draft by the SF Giants ,making him the first Japanese baseball Player to Play in MLB .
He made his debut on September 1, 1964 against the NY Mets .
A contract issue between the Nankai Hawks became the source of dispute . The MLB Commissioner ruled that Mashi could pitch the 64/65 seasons for San Francisco Giants but then had to be returned to the Hawks .
In his time in MLB Mashi was 5-1 with 9 saves a 3.60 ERA and had a 100 Ks .
In 1966 he returned to the Hawks winning 18 games in one season and helped lead them to a title , before a brief stint with the Tigers and then going to The Nippon Ham Fighters where he made a comeback and contributed to another team title .
His pioneering did not end on player retirement -Becoming a Scout for The SF Giants and later their Hitting instructor .
He returned to Japan remaining a great Ambassador of the Game .
He did a few stints as a pitching coach for Daiei Hawks and the Seibu Lions before becomming a NHK Commentator .
